Stoked In Northern California

From Stoked in Northern California

Hello All,

It has been five days of pure bliss … took Thursday and Friday off from work and went on an absolutely wonderful Sonoma – Bodega Bay – Point Reyes adventure with my fellow blogger.

Okay, before we get to the trip, I have to tell you about a new theory I have. The night before one goes on a vacation, they should do their darndest to see a kick-ass show. Seriously, no joke … Vacations need opening acts, and pumped-up concerts serve as excellent preludes to an adventure.

I’m saying all this because we saw Prince Wednesday night … And there has never been a better way for your blogger to kick off a trip. Homey knows how to put on a show.

Thursday AM we roll over the Golden Gate Bridge taking our first ( of many ; ) photo breaks.

Okay, have to throw out a warning here … This post is gonna get kinda disgusting.

I just spent the past four days trekking through incredibly beautiful countryside, with an incredibly beautiful travelling partner. And am gonna take some artistic license here with the quotas regarding how many pics of your girlfriend one should post in a single sitting … Such is life.

So after winding up the 101 we land at our first destination, Sonoma. We promptly head to the tasting rooms downtown.

… And indulge in some dope ass wine (straight from the mutha fucking barrel!)

From Roche we head to our second stop of the evening, Roessler … We got canned here.

Seriously, we had a very decent pour from each of those seven bottles …

Drunk, we did what any decent wine-tasting pair would naturally do … Eat a whole lobster.

🙂

So we had been expecting rain like the entire way through (they’d even been saying that there was a chance of snow in the city).

But, somehow, the clouds parted for the next 72 hours, and blessed us with gloriously blue skies, and absurdly rad white fluffy clowds.

Are you kidding me?!

I mean seriously …

Indeed, the drive west from Sonoma to Bodega Bay couldn’t have been any more spectacular.

We hit up the Armstrong Redwoods just north of Guerneville, and rock a very respectable three and a half mile hike.

The humbling size of those absurdly massive redwoods just inspire a perspective that is so unreal.

And there was a waterfall.

And it was magical.

I was gushing.

Absolutely gushing.

Okay, so on Friday night we stayed at the nicest place I have ever stayed at in my life, The Bodega Bay Lodge.

We had a friggin view of the hot tub from our room. WTF.

And … Just cause when you’re living it up you might as well live it up to the max … We had room service.

… We drove The 1 on Saturday afternoon.

And went on one of you blogger’s absolute favorite hikes:

Knocking out a solid 1,400 foot climb on a 6.5 mile loop … Decked out in slick hiking pants and hiking boots … Di, you hiked like a champion, and dressed like a champion … I am soaring.

Dude.

Took a nice little detour off the trail trying to nail a pic of this deer we saw.

Yo!

And the detour led us onto this meadow.

… Presenting us with this view …

Gawwhhh!

Stopped in at camp three …

That night we crashed at the Inverness Motel.

It was rad.

Waking up to a view that’s pure glory …

So, what better way to cap off a 96 hour whirlwind tour than to hit up an Oscar party at Pixar with my posse.

Congrats TS3.

So ya … what else is there to say …

Wednesday night Berkeley, Thursday night Sonoma, Friday night Bodega Bay, Saturday night Point Reyes, Sunday night San Francisco … Northern California has been good to me …

But, when you really get down to it … The places aren’t that much without the people you enjoy them with. I have seen some awesome spots on this planet by myself. As cool as those scenes were, it was hard to fully appreciate them alone.

Indeed, when you are able to bring together the priceless view and the priceless girl … Well … that is pure stoke.
