From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Hello All,

Bike touring … One of my all-time favorite activities. No question about that. It just combines so much rad: hills and sun and forests and adventure and exercise and body glide and camping fires and coffee shops and spandex and a dash of the unknown.

Friday night, got outta work and packed for a mini tour.

It felt good to be going so light.

All of my gear fit squarely on the bike and on my back.

Cruised down to Glen Park and crashed with the homeys.

This little bit of wonderful was there.

Hi Mochi!

Slept in.

Took a double shot of espresso.

And we were on our way.

Dudes, words can not describe how stoked I was to be pushing off.

So many memories rolling with this dude and that trailer. Our ten day trek down to SoCal was one of the most epic life experiences I have ever had. And to be heading north – if only for a weekend – it felt like the universe was right. Seriously, touring is mega excellent! It can be hard and grueling and the days are long … But the pay off is tremendous.

No matter where you end up, if you got there on your bike, chances are you’ll feel great.

We met up with this badass down in the Richmond.

What up!

… Loading up the haul …

The weather was pristine, and our ride up to the bridge spectacular.

No matter how many times I do this route, it always inspires a sense of awe. That we get to use our own power to cross the Golden Gate … What a trip.

And then dropping down into Saulsalito … This little Mediterranean feeling village on the bay. I just always feel so blessed when I get to do this.

Cruising through those little towns that dot our way north, we were chilling.

Chilling big time.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

We switched off with the rides and I got to tow for a while.

My legs loved it. Pure triathlon training.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

And the silliness!

Always welcomed on an adventure.

Lunch at the coffee roastery in San Anselmo.

The sandos are ridic.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Srsly!

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Crushed it down Sir Francis Drake.

A stretch of road I absolutely looooove!

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

With the golden hills of Northern California rolling out beyond us, your touring team was stoking.

🙂

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Dude.

The Pontz.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Seeeeeeider!

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

We got to the Lagunitas Grocery and they let us chill out in the walk in fridge.

My god.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

We ordered food like true athletes.

An 18 pack of beer.

Three different desserts.

Ground turkey.

Mac and cheese.

A stick of butter.

Veggies.

Trail mix.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

And the rode from here only got cooler.

I know! How the hell can that happen!

It did. We went through a friggin redwood grove.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

The road was freshly paved and it straight up felt like we were flying through there.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Absolutely absurd how cool this is.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Homeys!

You guys are rad.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Got into camp and registered like responsible citizens.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

So this was our campsite. It was in a redwood grove and totally as cool as you would imagine.

Dudes, what the hell. Why is everything so rad.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

The tarp.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

We hiked down to the stream for an evening beer.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Soaking my feet in the water after riding all day was beyond pleasant.

There is nothing like this.

Nature. Beer. Friends. California. Dusk. Streams. All great things.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Our hike back to camp was through the redwoods.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

What happened next?

Great question.

These wonderful people gave us several pounds of pulled pork.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Then we walked by the stream again.

Hello happy stream.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Hooked up the ranger with some of the pork we were gifted.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Picked up some firewood.

Like men.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

As if the kindness of our fellow campers couldn’t get any more excellent … This wonderful Jewsish Mother came by and brought us tofu for the non meat eaters in the group.

Also, that’s Kumar. He crashed with at the site as well. He’s figured life out.

Woke up Sunday morning, opened my eyes, and was greeted with this view.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Camping coffee.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Bike glam shot.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

… And we hit the road.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

A mellow Sunday cruise …

Life is good …

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

We climbed some hills.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

And were greeted with some very typical SF summer fog.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

So ya. That is that.

We rolled back to the city with our souls charged and spirits stoked.

For good measure, just to make sure I got it all out of my legs, I rode up Divisidero on my way home.

Cause fuck it.

From SF to Samuel P. Taylor Bike Tour

Much love to all of you out there.

Goodnight.

🙂 🙂 🙂
