Bachelor Party Backpacking

Hello All,

Point Reyes. Sky Camp. Early Autumn.

The usual recipe for an epic weekend of backpacking and merrymaking was shaping up in fine form. But this time it was different. This time my entire universe of bros rallied to the mountains in celebration of my bachelor party. These three days we spent in the back country brought a level of stoke beyond imaginable earthly levels.

So many wonderful souls, spanning every phase of my life, rolled out to this glorious stretch of the northern California coast. Dudes, I am humbled. Thank You.

Let’s start on Thursday night.

Big Bro and the Pontz meet up at Trader Joe’s in Rockridge.

We gather the necessary supplies consisting of — but not limited to — whiskey, kale, clif bars (60 count), salami, sausages, arugula, oatmeal, berries, beer.

Also, those badass t-shirts!!! Love ’em.

These two men put in so much work organizing this weekend. I can’t begin to thank them enough for everything. Bro / Pontz, love you guys, you are huge.

Friday afternoon. We rally at the trail head for a night hike up to Sky Camp.

Seriously dig the night hikes. Heading into the wilderness just as dusk begins to descend, you get this rush of adventure that feels so pure.

And to be cruising out with my entire crew!

Within a hundred yards we hit our first snag of the trip.

You see, I had been drinking pretty solidly before we pushed off, and when packing my bag (pretty much entirely of beer) I hastily threw a bunch of cans in there. Well — shocker — one exploded everywhere!

Ha!

The hike in was mega legit.

Climbing 1,200 feet over three miles. Headlamps and switchbacks and sweaty men. Lots of sweaty men.

And when we get the to crest — the team is rewarded with this surreal glow of the setting sun.

The Pacific glowing — the dudes stoking.

We get into camp and our cooks get right to it.

A lot of experience here crafting delicious back country menus.

Friggin absurdly delicious sausage stew.

Whew!!!

Saturday morning!

Hop outta the sleeping bag and say what’s up to the Pontz!

My usual fair of oatmeal, berries and fresh brewed coffee awaited.

This is perfection.

As the sun starts to rise, our camp begins to shake off the knots accumulated from spending the night on the ground.

For most of the dudes, this was their first time trekking out to Sky Camp. And boy were they greeted by an epic view when they got up. Drakes bay unfolding right before us …

360 degrees of epic.

From the forest to the ocean, this campground is pure glory.

What made this trip so friggin amazing was having so many prominent figures from different parts of my life. Childhood, college, early adulthood … Seeing these souls all mixed together … It felt like I was in a dream.

Love it.

The guys gear up and get ready for a day hike down to the ocean.

Gear and wetsuits and beer. We had the essentials.

This trail.

Seriously, this trail is a fantasy land of glowing green greatness.

So we are cruising down to the ocean and what do we come upon …

Gaaaaawwwwwww … Homeys coming in to surprise me!!!

From Bachelor Party Backpacking

This was too much. Seriously too much.

Running into your friends on the trail is just the coolest rush in the world.

Stoking.

We posted up and waited for our new team members to drop off their gear.

Ya know …

I want to give a huge shout out to Lino and Rich. I haven’t known these two for very long, they were Di’s friends who rallied out here for the trip.

And what’s more, this was Lino’s first backpacking trip!

But they came out here, seamlessly partied with the crew, and made this weekend all that more awesome. Thank you dudes. So stoked to gain such a pair of friends through my future wife.

The crew now links up.

And the stoke builds.

On the far side of the beach we hit up these dope little tide pools.

There was some legit nature around here.

It does not get any better than this.

The afternoon rolls along, and we start our trek up the mountain.

The views got absurd.

From Bachelor Party Backpacking

And these merry little glowing trails.

Hiya There Forest!

From Bachelor Party Backpacking

It was a loooooong day.

Ten plus miles of hiking around. Bodysurfing. Beers.

Whew!

Homeys relaxing!

Hells Ya!

You may notice an additional face in this one!

Kernel cruised in Saturday afternoon to greet us with cold beer and his shining face. 🙂

Couldn’t be more stoked to have my long-time friend come out here and say yo.

And that brings us to Saturday night, and the conclusion of our adventure.

We stayed up crazy late — I got roasted for the first time in my life — and the crew got in one last chill session.

What more can I say. Never in my life have I felt so much love from my guys. Every minute of this experience was this dream for me. The hardest part was just trying to stay in the moment, be present, and not get anxious about how this experience was finite. It was actually pretty tough some times. I would get sad thinking about how this weekend would end, and life would return to something other than trekking the back country with my seventeen best friends.

And that’s exactly where we find ourselves now. Monday night. All is normal.

Ya know … Not too sure how to end this post … I lived the purest form of happiness for the better party of 48 hours. Backpacking. Beers. Bodysurfing. Trekking. Stories. Advice. Sunsets. Sunrises. Tacos. My community came together and gave me every single thing I love for an entire weekend. I am truly overwhelmed. I guess that parsing this whole thing, and coming to terms with what it meant to me, is gonna take a long time here. I feel loved. I feel blessed. Gentlemen, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for this. Here’s to a lifetime of adventures.
