A Variety Show In Oakland

February 13th, 2010

JR and I performed at this rad variety show last night. It was at this ridiculously sweet loft in Oakland where Robertson’s Piedmont friends, the Tietjen sisters live. Here is a video of us singing.

So yeah, they had this custom built stage in their garage where about a dozen or so acts performed. It was like a home made open mic. These are the hosts jamming a country song.

Their Dad Ramsey* (JR’s guru) performed Boz Scaggs.

The lineup was indeed stellar. The amount of talent crowded into this small garage was kinda nuts. I guess that is what you get in the bay area — art and performing and stuff is a second language to these dudes and dudettes.

And the audience — with their enthusiasm and quickness to clap along to a rhythm, was excellent. The beer flowed like wine, and the wine … well, the wine was great too.

Making the even that much cooler, we started off chilling at the dock. Nothing like a warm early spring evening mixed with a Friday dock to set the spirits right.

Lastly, the journey to the variety show was quite fortuitous. And this post would not be complete without mentioning our BART experience. While waiting for the train on the platform, we ran into Shark – one of the dudes from our beloved General Jones band. He was parked at West Oakland, and on a whim decided to join us. What better way to journey to an event like this, all chalk with nerves, than to roll in with a rock star?
