Goodbye, Chicago

From Chicago

After a whirlwind 72 hours in this wonderfully windy city, our adventure here is soon coming to an end. Chicago, you have been excellent to us.

On our boat tour, the guide quoted Mark Twain most aptly, and I think that those famous few lines bear repeating here:

“It is hopeless for the occasional visitor to try to keep up with Chicago-she outgrows his prophecies faster than he can make them. She is always a novelty; for she is never the Chicago you saw when you passed through the last time.”

Indeed.

From the aqua green river lined with glorious skyscraper after glorious skyscraper, to the Willis Tower Sky Deck soaring 1,353 feet above the sidewalk, the power of these views has left an unforgettable mark on your blogger.

Wow.

And the nightlife!

Dude. Second City was ridiculous. Kingston Mines rocked.

Earlier this afternoon we rolled through the Museum of Contemporary Art.

It was pretty rad, but wayyyyy mod. Ya know.

I like this. I think that the skirt matches the painting.

But the city really stole our hearts with the architecture.

Just walking down any random city street, you can’t help but stop, crank your neck all the way back, and marvel at these giant buildings which somehow manage to humbly tower over you, smiling like kind giants.

A blend of Art Deco, Gothic, and a schlew of modern styles, the Chicago skyline fucking rocks.

Rocks real hard.

We wrapped up our stay here with a bold choice – we had Mexican Seafood.

Now, as you can imagine, us west coasters can get a bit weary when we’re in a land-locked state and are given seafood and avocados. But, this spot – Mariscos – totally was legit! (Actually, that Anette and PK were taking us there I had no worries whatsoever … And! It is also Jo’s favorite spot I’ve heard, so doubly no worries.)

The meal, the ambience, and the whole experience was perfect.

Thanks to our wonderful hosts, and this wonderful city.
