It looks like I am going to be in DC for a bit longer than expected. It’s begun snowing again, and the experts say that we are getting several more inches. The flight home has been canceled … Wild … What a trip. Additionally, most of the meetings which I was supposed to attend have also been canceled, and I am not even sure if I will get to even see the DC Office. Well, with lemons we make lemonade, and with snow — we go to bars and party.
So here’s the update: I moved from VA to DC yesterday (from Dave’s to Mike’s) and the three of us kicked it in Dupont. (This is Dave and Mike on the roof of Mike’s building.)
It was a brisk and clear DC evening. We walked through the rustic Dupont Circle neighborhood, enjoying the embassies, churches and cool old homes. The streets sort of remind me of a flat Pacific Heights. (Below, the glorious Kazakh Embassy)
This is a church.
Before meeting up with more Peace Corps buddies for dinner, the three of us grabbed a beer at the Russia House. Fortunately / Unfortunately the bartender gave us free shots at 5:45 (who takes shots so early) but when in Rome …
We then met up with Marisa and Kiley … Wonderful company indeed. The last time we all hung out was at the Democratic National Convention … It has been way too long, these girls rock. Also, Kiley is going to help me with my campaign for City College Board.
I’m not sure what is up with 2010 and disintegrating boots; I had lived 28 years on this planet without (to the best of my knowledge) ever encountering a boot disintegrating. And now, in the space of one month, I have seen it happen twice: once when Thom’s poor boots died while backpacking Point Reyes, and last night, when Dave’s boots gave out on him while trudging through the snow. Luckily, he’s a resourceful chap and he quickly boy-scouted them back together.
What’s more, the boot debacle did not dampen the spirits one bit. In fact, I think it pumped up the party.
Even the snowmen are chillin out.
Today has been superb. Mike and I knocked out one of my all-time favorite runs: The White House to The Mall to Lincoln to Jefferson and back home.
And now, I am in a holding pattern … Not quite sure when I will get home, if I will make it to work, or what will really happen at all in the future. Take care, stay warm, and remember to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
